    Time to clean out that garage or shed and prune some of those bushes around the house. The city will have a container for household clean-up items, at a designated location. Each week the container will be in different locations, so watch out ad to find out where. Please DO NOT bring the following items: oil, batteries, refrigerators or air-conditioners, and paint.

Community Events

  1. Cowley County Treasure Hunt

    May 26 - September 2 @ Cowley County Tourism Alliance

    Beginning Memorial Day, May 26th and going through Labor Day, September 1st, Cowley County residents will have the opportunity to become a visitor in their own backyard. The 5th Annual “Discover Cowley County Treasure Hunt” is designed to take participants to ten places of interest throughout the county. Individuals interested in participating should stop by the Winfield Area Chamber of Commerce – 123 E. 9th Avenue, or the Arkansas City Chamber of Commerce – 106 S. Summit, to pick up a treasure hunt album. Albums will be available beginning Wednesday, May 21st. Inside the album are clues to each of the ten locations, as well as GPS coordinates to each site. However, if you have trouble deciphering a clue or don’t have access to a GPS or computer, the tourism officials in either office would be happy to assist you.   2. "Literary Elements" - Summer Adult Reading Program

    “Literary Elements” is the theme of the Winfield Public Library’s 2014 Adult Summer Reading Program combining science and literature in a variety of ways sure to pique your interest. The focus this summer is on science and literature – either together or separately. Find great non-fiction books about science or fiction that is based on science. And as always – you can win reading anything that you like! There are four ways to win prizes this year. Read books on certain topics to fill in a tic-tac-toe board, review books, fill out quizzes, or just read what you usually do and fill out a reading log. Prizes include a Kindle Fire 7-Inch HD tablet, a $50 gift certificate from College Hill Coffee, puzzles, bags, tumblers, BOOKS and more. Check out the prize display case where you can see everything you can win!

    Friends of Winfield Public Library will meet on Monday, August 11 at 7 p.m. in the large meeting room at the library. The program will consist of a building renovation update by Joan Cales, a summary of the summer reading program by Joanna Brazil and Christina Salomon, an open discussion by Friends in attendance concerning the September Book Sale and a meeting place for Friends during the library renovation in 2015.
