Contractor Licensing

Licenses and applications for contractors, tradesmen, and apprentices are available on-line or through the Community Development Department office located in City Hall, 200 E 9th Ave, 620-221-5520. The office is open Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. 

General Construction

  • Includes: General Contractor, Building Contractor, Residential Contractor, Landlord Contractor, and Limited Contractor
  • Requires proof of Commercial General Liability Insurance:
    • General and Building with minimum limits of $1,000,000 Personal Injury / $2,000,000 Aggregate 
    • Residential, Landlord and Limited with minimum limits of $500,000 Personal Injury / $1,000,000 Aggregate
  • Requires Certificate of Workers Compensation Insurance or signed KS Workers Compensation Waiver
  • Requires License/Permit Bond: $5,000 coverage payable to the City of Winfield
  • Requires proof of a minimum score of 75% on the PROMETRIC (formerly Experior, Block & Assoc) or ICC standard examinations
  • On-line General Construction License Application

Building Trades 

  • Includes: Electrical Contractor, Mechanical Contractor, and Plumbing Contractor
  • Requires proof of Commercial General Liability Insurance: Minimum limits of $500,000 Personal Injury / $1,000,000 Aggregate
  • Requires Certificate of Workers Compensation Insurance or signed KS Workers Compensation Waiver
  • Requires License/Permit Bond: $5,000 coverage payable to the City of Winfield

Renewals

General Construction Contractor Licenses expire on August 31st of each year.


Building Trades Licenses expire on December 31st of each year. Licenses may be renewed for the following calendar year from December 1 through January 31, thereafter, a reinstatement fee is assessed. Building Trades applicants are required to provide proof of Continuing Education in order to obtain a license. All persons receiving a license must obtain not less than twelve (12) hours biennially or six (6) hours annually of continuing education pursuant to Kansas State Statute.
