Fire History

The Winfield Fire Department initially began as a Volunteer Department. The Volunteers were divided into three (3) companies. These 3 companies were the Eaton Hose Company, the Skinner Hose Company and the Robinson Hose Company. The Fire Department moved into their new building around 1886. At that time the Fire Chief for the department was Chief S. E. Compton. The new facility the department moved into in 1886 was a combined City of Winfield building, which they shared with all other city departments.

The department manpower during this time consisted of 25 members. Somewhere around 1903 the Winfield Fire Department became a full paid fire department working 24-hour shifts. The old Winfield Fire station was located at 817 Fuller, and for over 100 years the Winfield Fire Department has been in the same location and the same building (with some renovations).
